Baker: Two people died after their vehicle went off the roadway and caught on fire

BAKER, La. — Two people died in a three-vehicle crash on Plank Rd. on Tuesday evening.

It was just after 7 p.m. on March 12, when Louisiana State Police troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Plank Rd., or LA 67, north of Dyer Rd. in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The crash ended up killing two people, who have not been identified at this time.

The investigation so far shows that the driver of a 2009 Infiniti G37 was driving south on Plank Rd. behind a 2020 GMC Sierra (pulling a utility trailer.) At the same time, a 2009 Hummer H3T was headed the opposite direction on Plank Rd.

For unknown reasons, the Infiniti rear-ended the GMC and then hit the oncoming Hummer. The Infiniti went off the roadway and went up in flames.

The unidentified driver and passenger of the Infiniti died on the scene. The drivers of the GMC and Hummer were transported to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

Impairment is unknown at this time, but toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation. Troopers ask that anyone with any information regarding this crash please contact Louisiana State Police Troop A at 225-754-8500, or their local law enforcement agency.
