New details: Verbal argument led to shooting at Baker Walmart

Customer tells UWK the moment everyone ran out the Walmart

BAKER — New details are emerging after a shooting inside the Baker Walmart Friday.

Unfiltered with Kiran has learned that two friends, Tyshalyn Stewart and Tykia Tate, were shopping when they ran into Lakeisha Turner. Stewart is the baby’s mother of Turner’s boyfriend.

A verbal argument between the women ensued inside the store. That’s when sources say that Tate physically hit Turner. During the physical altercation, sources believe Turner reached into her bag, grabbed a gun and fired one shot to get Tate off of her.

“I was in the garden center when everyone came running and screaming that someone was shooting,” a customer tells UWK. “About 5 to 6 people ran out of the emergency exit saying someone was shooting then people came running out of the doors into the garden center. We all made a mass exit.”

Tate has been charged with simple battery and disturbing the peace. Turner was charged with illegal discharge of a firearm and simple criminal damage to property.

No injuries were reported and no one was shot, EMS confirmed. However, the shooting sparked panic with shoppers fleeing the scene. There are several people being treated for panic attacks, sources tell UWK.

Shortly after police arrived, they began evacuating Walmart.
