Barges collide in Iberville Parish near Jack Miller’s

Two barges collided overnight around 10pm in the intracoastal waterway near Jack Miller’s landing in Iberville Parish.

One of the barges did take on some water and is sinking. Officials say it is carrying a “heavy fuel oil,” and is not leaking because the compartment carrying the content was not damaged.

The other barge remains intact and awaits the Coast Guard’s response.

There are no reported injuries from the collision.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s deputies and Iberville Parish officials are keeping tabs on the water intake since the collision happened so close to a water plant that provides water for portions of the parish.

It’s why the water intake near Jack Miller’s has been shut off out of an abundance of caution and the plant is relying on wells to supply water.

It’s also why parish officials are asking people to please conserve water usage at this time.
