BATON ROUGE —- Baton Rouge Police officers are investigating a deadly crash, in which one person died.
It happened on Sunday morning, Feb. 23 just before 10 a.m. on I-10 eastbound near the Washington Street exit in Baton Rouge.
The incident involved a 2025 Freightliner and 2024 Toyota Corolla.
The investigation so far reveals that the 18-wheeler was traveling in the middle lane on I-10 East, when the Toyota rear-ended the big rig. It is believed that the crash happened around the top of the Mississippi River Bridge.
After impact, officers say the two vehicles were stuck together as they traveled east on I-10.
That’s when a witness was able to flag down the driver of the big rig to advise him of the other vehicle. According to the witness, the Toyota had been ‘driving erratic on LA Hwy 1 prior to getting on the bridge.’
The driver of the Toyota has been identified as 19-year-old William Gray. Officials say he was wearing his seatbelt, but died on scene.
This is still an ongoing investigation.
