Violent argument turns into gunfight on Bluebonnet Blvd.

BATON ROUGE – Following a fight that escalated into a shootout on Bluebonnet Blvd, a Baton Rouge man has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage, and child endangerment.

Raynardo Mason, 33, is accused of two incidents that happened July 9. According to arrest documents, there was an argument unfolded between Mason and the mother of his 6-week-old child at a home on Springbrook Ave, near the intersection of Bluebonnet Blvd. and Burbank Dr.

“Please hurry”

The victim says that the argument erupted after she made a remark about their relationship, causing Mason to become “irate” and engage in verbal aggression. Allegedly, Mason proceeded to hit “her in the back of the head with an open hand” before shoving her.

The arrest documents indicate that Mason’s mother and their infant son were present during the argument.

During the argument, the victim started texting her sister about the fight, urgently requesting a ride. She told her sister to “please hurry,” the documents state. According to the sister’s statement, upon her arrival, she overheard Mason tell her sister that “he was taking their child and she would never see him again”. The sister also told deputies that Mason, along with his mother, “threatened to shoot her if she did not leave the property.”

According to the arrest documents, the sister left and parked her vehicle near the intersection of Bluebonnet and Springbrook Ave. where she dialed 911.

Shortly after that call, she says Mason drove past her car, “leaning out of the window threatening to shoot her.” The documents state that Mason proceeded to tail her, prompting her to make a U-turn on Bluebonnet Blvd. Mason reportedly pursued her and fired 4-5 shots at her vehicle.

Deputies confirm that the bullets hit the driver’s side door with the victim’s 2-year-old child in the backseat.

Mason was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder along with other charges. His bond is set $225,000. A condition of his bond is he must sign a protective order.
