Baton Rouge man killed in single-vehicle crash

State police is investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a Baton Rouge man on Oct. 20.

Officials say Mark Anthony Phillips, 53, was driving a Toyota pickup truck south on LA 37 in Central before the vehicle ran off the road into a ditch before it hit a tree. Phillips died at the scene.

Authorities say Phillips was wearing a seatbelt. Toxicology samples were taken and the results are pending, although authorities don’t suspect impairment.

Troopers encourage motorists to always make safe choices while in a motor vehicle.  Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted.

Always follow traffic laws and ensure that every occupant is properly restrained.  Not all crashes are survivable, but taking simple precautions such as those mentioned can often be the difference between life and death.
