Baton Rouge: Six shot, one dead on Greenwell Street

BATON ROUGE — One person is dead, and six people were injured on Thursday afternoon during a shooting at a Baton Rouge apartment complex.

Five people were rushed to a local hospital after they were injured in the shooting around 2 p.m. at the Urban Meadows Apartments in the 6300 block of Greenwell Street. The condition of the victims is not known at this time.

Some of the injured were shot, according to officials, and one person was pronounced dead on the scene.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene including the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, which is assisting the Baton Rouge Police Department.

Sources tell UWK several victims ran to the parking lot of Ragusa’s Meat Market, a nearby convenience store, located in the 6500 block of Greenwell Street.

It is unclear what led up to the shooting. We are gathering more details and will keep you updated.
