N. Acadian deadly shooting scene

BATON ROUGE — The shootings in Baton Rouge continue Monday morning into the afternoon with the most recent one leaving one person dead. Since Sunday at 9am, there have been four homicides in Baton Rouge.

The latest shooting happened around 11:45am near Acadian Thruway and Gus Young Ave. Officials say it was a drive-by shooting with over a dozen rounds fired with the driver of a vehicle killed. The coroner was contacted after the shooting, which means the person died on the scene.

The driver has been identified as Courtney Brown Jr., 25.

Details of what led up to the drive-by shooting remain under investigation.

The shooting earlier on Monday morning around 9:30am was on Aldrich St. near the College Frontage Rd. Early reports indicate a homeless man in his 60’s was shot in the shoulder. He did have a non-life threatening injury and was transported to a hospital.

No details have been released at this time on what led up to his shooting.

Both of these shootings come on the heels of a double shooting overnight that led to one person killed and a separate deadly shooting around 10pm Sunday night.

These five people shot comes after a violent weekend in Baton Rouge of four shootings and three people killed.

Since 10pm Saturday May 20th, there have been nine people shot within the city limits of Baton Rouge by UWK‘s count. Of those nine people shot, four of them died. On top of the shootings, there were three bodies found in East Baton Rouge Parish. Two of them appear to be drug overdoses while one was a 52-yr-old man, Tyron Davis, found shot in a garage of an empty home.
