BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge was named a Top Digital City for the 11th year in a row. The Center for Digital Government recognized Baton Rouge as a Top 10 Digital City among cities its size. It’s the only Louisiana city to make the list.
Baton Rouge ranked 6th, behind the top cities in order: Scottsdale, AZ; Roseville, CA; Bellevue, WA; Columbia, MO; and Norfolk, VA and Olathe, KS, which tied for 5th.
The city was recognized for several advances, including:
- The Red Stick Ready app which delivers real-time emergency updates from the Mayor-President’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
- The Baton Rouge Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center, which helps enhance emergency response, identify crime trends, and develop crime-reduction strategies.
- Efforts to remove barriers to broadband expansion in underserved areas, as well as expanding community internet access through the EBR Library’s computers and wi-fi hotspots.
“Baton Rouge continues to show its prominence in the use of technology to help our operations and to keep our citizens informed,” said Mayor-President Sid Edwards.
City-Parish officials say they’ve spent the past year strengthening digital infrastructure and operations. Key priorities included enhancing cybersecurity, improving location-based data programs used for drainage, public safety, and blight, and deploying updated data-collection standards across departments.
The Center for Digital Government is a national research and advisory institute dedicated to advancing IT best practices and policies in state and local governments. Its rankings highlight cities that excel in implementing digital solutions, improving services for residents, and advancing the use of data and technology across government operations.
