Flash flooding swamps cars in Baton Rouge and Livingston Parish

DENHAM SPRINGS, La. — Upwards of five inches of rain swamped portions the Baton Rouge area Sunday.

Areas from West Baton Rouge into Denham Springs along I-12 were left inundated by flood waters. High water shut down portion of I-110 and I-10 near Siegen Ln. Sunday afternoon. Acadian Thruway was also shut down for most of the day Sunday.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office say there were several cars who got caught in the flood waters.

Now officials are watching the rising Amite River, which is expected to reach minor flood stage in some areas in Livingston Parish later this week.

Liam Dunn welcomed home a month after staying in hospital

BRUSLY, La. — Just shy of a month since his wreck, Liam Dunn, 20, returned to his parents’ Brusly home with a crowd of family, friends, neighbors and complete strangers welcoming him with signs in hand.

Dunn was the third passenger in his sister’s car on New Year’s Eve day in West Baton Rouge Parish when they were hit by Addis Officer David Cauthron. Maggie Dunn & her best friend Caroline Gill lost their lives in that wreck.

Deputy hit by car during traffic stop, fires at suspect, LSP says

ETHEL, La. — Louisiana State Police is now leading the investigation into a deputy-involved shooting in East Feliciana Parish Saturday night.

Investigators say the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s deputy was hit by a car during a traffic stop and fired at the driver. The incident unfolded around 7:30 p.m. Saturday on Payne Rd. off of Line Rd. in Ethel.

Both the deputy and the driver were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are said to be minor to moderate. It’s unclear if they are still in the hospital or have been released.

Man hit and killed while crossing Airline Hwy.

BATON ROUGE, La. — Baton Rouge Police are investigating after a man was hit and killed trying to cross Airline Hwy. Saturday night.

Police say the crash happened in the 9900 block of Airline Hwy. near I-12 near Celebration Station. The crash, according to BRPD, involved a Ford F-150 pickup, a Ford Focus and a pedestrian, Patrick Patterson.

Kaivon Washington arrested for 2020 first degree rape of 12-yr-old

WALKER, La. — Kaivon Washington, the 18-year-old facing third-degree rape charges of a LSU student before she was killed, has turned himself in to Walker Police in connection to a 2020 rape investigation.

Kaivon Washington, 18, is under investigation for the sexual assault of a then 12-year-old girl. She told Unfiltered with Kiran exclusively that she’s speaking out about the incident hoping to help other possible victims come forward.

BRPD union suing two Civil Service board members

BATON ROUGE, La. — Baton Rouge Police Union President, Corporal Brandon O’Neal, filed lawsuits against two members of the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board on Friday, Jan. 27th. Corporeal O’Neal’s actions ask the Court to force Brandon O Williams and Sharon Lewis respectively, to forfeit their seats.

Corporal O’Neal filed the lawsuit as a private person on behalf of the Baton Rouge Union of Police that he represents, according to his attorney, Cliff Ivey.

Unfiltered with Kiran has previously reported the union concerns with Williams’ tenure on the Board, citing to his criminal history and questioning his ability to sit as a neutral juror when Officers bring discipline appeals before the Board. Williams rebuked the calls for his resignation, but now, the Union is seeking to force his removal.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — In a painful field goal kicked by the Kansas City Chiefs with only seconds on the clock, it shattered the Cincinnati Bengals’ dreams of returning to the Super Bowl two years in a row.

Had they won, the Bengals would have made history as the fourth team to have consecutive appearances at super bowls.
