BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge Police officers have arrested two people in connection with the shooting death of a 19-year-old man who was shot while walking in Baton Rouge earlier this month.
Officers arrested DeKendall Hickman and Larry Thompson on multiple charges in connection to the fatal shooting.
Baton Rouge Police officers responded to the 3900 block of Eleanor Dr. off of Prescott Rd. in the city around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 17th for a shooting.
Joseph Mitchell, 19, was shot to the head and died from his injuries.
Detectives developed a suspect vehicle through sources, and Baton Rouge Police Uniform Patrol helped locate the vehicle.
On Sept. 26, Uniform Patrol Officers located the suspect vehicle, which was occupied by Hickman and Thompson. After a short pursuit and crash, officers were able to stop the vehicle and transported Hickman and Thompson to the Violent Crimes Unit.
DeKendall Hickman was arrested and charged with first degree murder, four counts of attempted first degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, possession of a machine gun, possession of Schedule I CDS, felon in possession of a firearm, and aggravated flight from an officer.
He has prior arrests for damage to property, aggravated assault-firearm (Multiple), unauthorized entry, domestic abuse battery, and felon in possession of a firearm, according to BRPD.
Larry Thompson was arrested and charged with possession of a machine gun, possession of Schedule I CDS, and possession of a firearm with CDS. He has no prior criminal history.
