BATON ROUGE — The Baton Rouge Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of an elderly man earlier this week.
Police said that 39-year-old Daniel Westley was taken into custody on Friday, April 4. He is facing a charge of first-degree murder in the death of 80-year-old James Williams.
The deadly shooting happened days earlier on Avenue E, just south of Blount Road. When officers arrived on scene, they found Williams suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities say he had been sitting on his front porch at the time of the shooting and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Westley, who has a lengthy criminal record, including previous charges related to homicide and kidnapping, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Another shooting that happened Tuesday night remains under investigation as well. 25-year-old Samuel Jackson was found shot and killed in a breezeway of a housing complex on La Margier Avenue, located between S. Choctaw Dr. and Hwy. 190 near N. Sherwood Forest Dr.
