BATON ROUGE — A 24-year-old man was arrested following an apparent accidental shooting that left a 16-year-old dead last night.
Baton Rouge Police officers responded to a call in the 3800 block of Ozark Street just after 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 8. Once there, officers discovered the victim, 16-year-old Charleston Wright, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Wright was transported to a local hospital, but died of his injuries.
According to BRPD, homicide investigators determined that Wright was shot accidentally by 24-year-old Jerry Smith. Smith was arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of negligent homicide.
This was the third deadly shooting in one day. Earlier on Thursday, an 18-year-old woman was shot and killed inside her home and in the morning, a man died on Alaska St.
