BATON ROUGE — A Baton Rouge Police officer was rushed to a hospital after a crash involving his motorcycle. Multiple sources now confirm to UWK that the incident was an “intentional, targeted hit” on the officer.
The crash occurred after 11 a.m. on Monday, June 16, at Prescott and Joor Roads, near Greenwell Springs. Northbound Greenwell Springs was shut down as officials responded to investigate the scene, and a large perimeter was established. Drivers are urged to use caution if in that area.
The motorcycle officer was transported in very serious condition via ambulance, escorted by multiple police officers. He is currently in surgery. No further details regarding the officer’s current condition have been released.
Details about the crash itself have not been released at this time, but UWK has learned it appears to be an intentional hit on the officer. The motorman was reportedly targeted and dragged on his motorcycle before the suspect allegedly drove off. As of nearly 1 p.m., UWK learned the suspect was in custody.
The alleged suspect made a Facebook post on June 16 after 11 a.m. that read, “Check Him Out on Joor Rd. Stretched One.”
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the crash. More details will be provided as soon as UWK gets them.
