BATON ROUGE — A shooting outside of the Gulf Coast Bank and Trust Company on Jefferson Hwy. in the Towne Center area of Baton Rouge is under investigation. One person has been arrested so far, but two others are still wanted.
It was around 2 p.m. Monday when a Baton Rouge Police officer responded to a call for a suspicious incident at the bank in Towne Center. According to BRPD, a man and woman were attempting to cash a fraudulent check of $1,800. The man was later identified as Dorsay Jones.
When the initial officer responded, he was advised there were multiple subjects outside in a vehicle. When the officer approached the vehicle in question, the officer heard a gunshot. According to officials, one of the people in the vehicle had accidentally shot himself when he attempted to conceal the weapon from the officer.
According to sources, he was shot once to the stomach. The victim (who was later identified as Larry Scott Jr.) was transported to a local hospital and later booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison after detectives discovered a large quantity of Schedule II drugs in his possession, per BRPD.
Scott faces charges charges of possession of Schedule II drugs and possession of a firearm with controlled dangerous substance.
Jones faces one count of monetary instrument abuse and one count of forgery. He has an active warrant for monetary instrument abuse from an incident in January 2025, according to the arrest document.
Yesterday, officers along with assisting agencies searched the area for the two suspects who fled the scene on foot. The two people are described as a white woman with long, blonde hair wearing black tights and a white man last seen wearing a gray hoodie.
The investigation is ongoing, and no other details are available at this time.
