BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge police have made an arrest in connection with a drive-by shooting last month that claimed the life of an 8-year-old boy and injured two other children.
Kendrick Profit, 22, has been charged with first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and obstruction of justice.
The shooting occurred on November 27 on Swan Avenue. Police said the shooter or shooters opened fire after spotting a vehicle they believed to be a target. However, inside the vehicle were a mother and her five children. Three of the children were struck by gunfire.
Among the victims was 8-year-old Diellon Daniel, who was tragically killed. Two of his siblings sustained serious injuries—one shot in the face and the other in the arm.
Sources tell UWK that the mother attempted to flee the scene but crashed her vehicle into a tree during the chaos. Investigators later recovered nearly 60 shell casings, with approximately 30 bullets striking the family’s vehicle.
Police have not disclosed specific details regarding Profit’s involvement in the shooting. Profit has previous arrests for theft and aggravated flight from an officer, according to BRPD.
No additional arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. As always, anyone with any information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.

Mayor Broome issued a statement in regards to the shooting:
“Our hearts are broken by the news that three young children were shot today during a targeted shooting on Swan Avenue in Scotlandville. We understand that all three children were transported to a local hospital, and we are joining our hearts together as a community and praying for each of these young people and their families. There are no words to express how much pain the choice of some adults to engage in this violence that injured innocent children has brought these children’s family members, their young friends, classmates and teachers, and our entire community. You each remain in our prayers continually. Our Baton Rouge Police Department is working every lead in this case diligently, and we will not rest until any perpetrators of this violence are brought to justice. We need your help as a community to share any information you believe may be helpful in solving this case. Certainly, we all want to see a safe holiday season that allows us to celebrate and not to mourn. And as a community we join our hearts together in that earnest prayer at this time.”
