BATON ROUGE — The latest crime in Baton Rouge includes officers investigating another homicide, which is the second homicide and third shooting in less than 24 hours. The three shootings happened within a four-mile radius in a matter of 17 hours.
The most recent happened on Aug. 8th around 1:15 p.m. in the 2500 block of Dalton St., right off of Plank Rd. The victim was a 14-year-old who died in the shooting. He has been identified as Travez Washington.
“An anonymous complaint called in shots fired in the area, actually down the street officers patrolling found shell casings in the roadway. He got out of the car and found a deceased male with a gunshot wound in a ditch,” BRPD Chief TJ Morse told UWK.
It’s unclear if police have any suspects or motives.
This shooting was three miles away from the shooting that happened nearly 14 hours prior on Quivera St. In that case, officers responded to a shooting around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 7 and found a man dead in the roadway, from apparent gunshot wounds. Police have said the deceased man was wearing black clothing and a ski mask. His name has also not been released at this time because officials have not been able to identify him, despite running his fingerprints.
It’s unclear if the two deadly shootings are connected in any way. Autopsies are pending on both shooting victims.
Around 8:20 p.m. on Aug. 7, officials also responded to the 3000 block of Jefferson Ave. for a shooting. That’s a mile from the Dalton St. shooting and roughly four miles from the Quivera St. shooting. One person was transported to a hospital but their condition is unknown at this time. No further details have been released into that shooting.
Anyone with information on any of the shootings is asked to call the Baton Rouge Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.
