BATON ROUGE — It was in the middle of the night when officials from the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services say they received a call about a toddler wandering around alone in the Tigerland area near LSU.
Baton Rouge Police officers responded to the area around 2 a.m. on Sept. 14 after they were told there was a toddler walking around a store, wearing nothing but a diaper.
Paramedics examined the child at the scene. At that time, the child’s family could not be found immediately so DCFS stepped in and took custody of the child through a court order. From there, the child was put in a certified foster home.
Throughout the day on Monday, Sept. 14, officials have now been able to track down the toddler’s mother and DCFS is trying to determine her “protective capacities” at this time.
“Our top priority is making sure this child is safe and cared for while we determine the next steps,” said DCFS Secretary Rebecca Harris.
No further details have been released in order to prevent the child’s identity from being released.
