Bicyclist dead after crash

On Dec. 13, a 59-year-old bicyclist died in a wreck with a vehicle in Livingston Parish.

Perry Winder of Springfield turned his Schwinn bicycle onto LA 42 as a driver of a 2018 Mazda 3 was driving down LA 42. When the bicyclist turned onto the highway, he and the Mazda crashed.

Louisiana State Police Troopers said Winder was not wearing a safety helmet and did not have proper lighting on the bike.

He suffered major injuries from the crash and was moved to the hospital where he ultimately died.

They do not believe the driver of the Mazda was impaired, but toxicology samples were taken from both people for testing.

This is an ongoing investigation.
