Body found in canal in Baton Rouge identified as missing man

Joseph Kinchen, 74.

BATON ROUGE —- According to the victim’s family, the body found in a canal Saturday afternoon has been identified as a 74-year-old man who had been missing for a week.

Joseph Kinchen was last seen leaving a business in the 9300 block of Cortana Place on Sept. 30 at 10:15 pm before Baton Rouge Police recovered the body Saturday.

The discovery was made in the 9100 block of Tom Dr. That’s off of Airline Highway in Baton Rouge. Kinchen’s body was found behind the Crescent Crown Distributing.

Officials say Kinchen suffered from Alzheimer’s and diabetes.

As of now, officials say it does not appear there was any trauma to the body, but an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
