BATON ROUGE — Results now confirm the body found in the Mississippi River late Monday night is that of missing Florida man, Jody Bert, according to the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office.
It was around 11:30pm on Monday, Aug. 14 when the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Coast Guard in reference to a deceased body in the river. A dredging company is who found the body in river near the 7100 block of River Rd.

The body could not be identified at that time and has been handed over the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. It appears the body had been submerged for quite some time.
Multiple officials have added there did not appear to be any foul play.
The EBR Coroner’s Office confirms the body is that of Jody Bert, the native-american man from Florida who was passing through Baton Rouge with his family in March 2023 and then disappeared.
Bert was last seen around 12:45am on March 22 when he checked into a downtown Baton Rouge hotel for the night with his wife and kids.
Officials told UWK that Bert pulled up to the hotel, took his family to the room and then said he would go park the car in a nearby garage and be back. That was the last time he was seen.
His vehicle was found with his phone and wallet inside, leaving officials to believe he was not robbed. Sources added Bert stopped for the night due to a medical issue, possibly psychological.
Since then, the case went cold and there were not many updates on his case.
Dental records & DNA had to be used to verify the identity of the body.
