Box truck catches on fire after car falls off trailer on I-12

DENHAM SPRINGS —— I-12 westbound is now back open past the Denham Springs exit after a fiery crash.

Officials tell Unfiltered with Kiran it was around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17 when a trailer hauling a car had a blowout.

As the truck driver tried to make it to a shoulder, the car came off the trailer.

At the same time, an 18-wheeler that was also headed westbound, hit the car. The big rig had a flat tire.

But a box truck, also driving westbound, did not see the vehicle in the middle of the interstate and hit it. The impact flipped the box truck on its side and caught on fire.

The box truck driver crawled out to safety but was transported to a hospital as a precautionary measure.

All lanes on I-12 westbound as well as westbound on-ramp from Range Ave. opened back up around 10:30 p.m.
