BR: Another toddler dies from Fentanyl overdose

The East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office reports a 20-month-old baby died of a fentanyl overdose.

Officials say Jahrei Paul showed up at a Baton Rouge hospital on Halloween in very bad shape and officials worked on the toddler but the baby died.

Dr. Beau Clark’s office conducted an autopsy and said the cause of death was a fentanyl overdose but the manner of death remains undetermined.

The case would be worked by BRPD. As of now, sources say the child’s grandparent dropped him off at the hospital because the father said he could not take his own child. BRPD is now looking to speak with the baby’s father.

Sources also added Paul happens to be another case that may have fell off the radar for DCFS. His case was an open investigation with the Dept. Of Child & Family Services.

It comes nearly four months after DCFS caught heat over the death of 2-yr-old Mitchell Robinson.
