WHITE CASTLE — Several hours after a fire started at Nottoway in White Castle in Iberville Parish, multiple agencies are still responding to control the blaze.
The fire broke just after 2 p.m. on the south side of the home that faces White Castle. Around 3:30 p.m., it was reported that most of the fire was under control. However, the fire has since intensified and is now out of control with firefighters no longer able to extinguish it, multiple officials tell UWK.
Drone footage taken around 6 p.m. shows much of the home covered in flames and black smoke.
There is significant damage to Nottoway from not only the fire, but also from the intense smoke.
As of now, there are no reported injuries.
Along with firefighters and the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office, the State Fire Marshal’s Office is sending a crew to Nottoway as well. They will investigate the cause of the fire.
Nottoway Plantation was built in 1859 and in 1980, it was converted into a bed and breakfast in White Castle. The plantation is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
