Breaking News: Suspect killed, Denham Springs officer shot in neck

DENHAM SPRINGS — A Denham Springs police officer was shot in the neck Thursday in the parking lot of a shopping center off Range Ave. and Rushing Rd. and the alleged shooter has been killed, Unfiltered with Kiran has learned.

According to law enforcement sources, the officer responded to a parking lot for an argument between two people when a shootout ensued around 4:30 p.m. on May 11, 2023. UWK is told as many as 10 rounds were exchanged and that the suspect was killed at a secondary scene just a few miles from the original scene.

Sources tell UWK after the initial shooting, the suspect fled to a few miles away near the old Albertson’s on Florida Blvd. That’s where another shooting took place, in which the suspect was killed.

Photos from the crime scene show a number of yellow crime scene markers and a police SUV in the parking lot.

Details on the officer’s condition have not been released at this time. The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office is on the scene assisting with the investigation.

The scene unfolded in a busy area of Denham Springs near I-12. A Raising Cane’s, Waffle House, Petco, Big Lots and Office Depot are among the stores nearby where the original scene unfolded where the Denham Springs officer was shot.
