ALBANY — A woman shot and killed her husband before taking the life of an eight-year-old boy who lived with them in an apparent murder-suicide, Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard confirmed.

Jenny Williamson, 49, is believed to have shot and killed her husband, Steven Williamson, 49, and the young boy late Friday or early Saturday (June 28-29), according to early findings in the investigation, Sheriff Ard stated.

“This is not the type of scene you want to see,” Ard said Monday afternoon. “We are still in the process of processing this crime scene. We don’t have any background on a domestic issue in this house—not saying there’s not one—but we don’t have anything that actually points to that. So we’re trying to find what we can through whatever evidence we have collected so far.”

A family member, unable to contact the couple, went to their home on W. Bates Rd. in Hammond on Monday morning and discovered the gruesome crime scene, Ard said. The house is located south of I-12 and off Hwy. 43, in a section of Hammond that lies in Livingston Parish near Albany.

The couple is believed to be from the New Orleans area and had lived in the house for less than a year. Sheriff Ard mentioned that there had been no previous calls for violence at the home.

“It is safe to say that this is not a random shooting. It is contained, confined, and people can rest assured that this is not a random shooting,” Ard said. “This is just a devastating type of situation. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. They’re going to have a difficult time getting through this. It’s just devastating.”

Ard did not elaborate on the relationship between the little boy and the couple, only noting that he was not the couple’s child but he lived in the home.

Ard addressed some of the rumors that have popped up on social media since UWK broke the story on the murder-suicide Monday morning. He says that there is no evidence at this time that Jenny Williamson has a history of psychological issues.

The investigation continues.
