BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge Police officers arrested the man accused of obscenity and attempted rape at a pool at an apartment complex. An anonymous tip was called into police after photos of the suspect, Marquise Quindell Beckham, started circulating.
According to officials, the victim reported that on Tuesday, July 22nd, she was at the pool area of an apartment complex on Ben Hur Road around 11:30 a.m. when she saw Beckham enter the area.
The woman told officers that Beckham was staring at her and she noticed his hand was in his pants but couldn’t tell what he was doing at the time. He soon walked up to her and began chatting and asking her questions, including whether she was alone.
The woman said she told him that she had a boyfriend and Beckham backed down some. However, when she walked away and sat near her belongings, she said that Beckham was standing close to her again, this time with his pants down, allegedly exposing himself and masturbating.
The woman said that he gave her sexually explicit instructions to which she told him “No”. She also told officers that he was filming her at this point.
She got up and began walking toward the office near the pool, and Beckham started to follow her, so she ran. Beckham allegedly called out “why are you running from me?” before she made it to the office doors and tried to get in.
That’s when the woman said Beckham allegedly grabbed her swimsuit bottoms from behind. She started screaming and banging the door, which is when Beckham left the area.
Beckham is facing one count of attempted second-degree rape and one count of obscenity.
