BATON ROUGE — Two additional teenagers have been arrested in connection to a mid-December shooting atop the levee in downtown Baton Rouge.
The shooting occurred near the levee by the River Center around 7:15 p.m. on December 14, 2024, as the Christmas parade passed in front of the venue.
Treyvon Collins and Eddie Monroe, both 17, were arrested in connection to the shooting on January 13 and 14. Both face charges of attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile.
Previously, a 15-year-old was apprehended by the Baton Rouge Police Department and the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force on January 10, 2025. His identity has not been disclosed due to his age. He faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, and illegal use of a weapon.
BRPD also confirmed that the same 15-year-old was somehow released from custody after his January 2025 arrest. UWK has pressed officials for an explanation but has not received an official response.
Teen suspects connected to other murders
UWK has learned that all three teens charged in connection with the Christmas parade shooting have been connected to a Jan. 1, 2024 drive-by shooting that left a 15-year-old high school football player dead.
Collins, Monroe and the unnamed 15-year-old were all arrested in February 2024 for first-degree murder in the death of 15-year-old Ramide Cosey, a freshman football player at Istrouma High School. Cosey was killed in a drive-by shooting on New Year’s Day 2024. Cosey died at the scene and three other juvenile victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In addition to the first-degree murder charge, the trio also faced four counts of attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of weapons.
However, a grand jury declined to indict them, and the case did not proceed to trial. The suspects were 16 and 14 at the time of the murder. Given their juvenile status, their names were not released at that time.
Christmas parade shooting chaos
According to police, the levee shooting in December began as an argument between two individuals near the Mississippi River. The confrontation escalated, with the individuals firing at each other.
An innocent bystander, a woman, was struck by gunfire and had non-life-threatening injuries. Additionally, a juvenile was injured by a four-wheeler while attempting to flee the scene.
Investigators recovered over 40 shell casings of various calibers from the area. Due to the parade and subsequent shooting, multiple downtown streets were temporarily closed.
Surveillance footage captured moments before the shooting reportedly shows Collins arguing with another male and brandishing a weapon. Shortly after, Collins, Monroe, and others in their group began firing at another group of males.
All individuals involved in the shooting were captured on camera fleeing the scene with firearms.
