BATON ROUGE — Over a two-day period, BRPD’s Special Investigations Unit executed two search warrants that ended with one of the largest drug busts in Baton Rouge PD’s history, according to officials. Multiple drugs and guns were seized and one person was arrested.
Around 6 p.m. on Aug. 14, 2024, multiple BRPD divisions went to the 9000 block of Keaty Dr., which led to subsequent searches warrants executed at additional address like the 3500 block of Adams Ave. & the 16400 Vermillion Dr..
BRPD Chief Thomas S. Morse Jr. explained, “Special Investigation Division is a unit that I formed several months ago. Since their inception, has done a lot of great work with assisting our Violent Crime Unit (VCU) including working with the district attorneys office to get indictments on some gang activity charges earlier this year.”
Nearly 4.5 pounds (2.1 kilograms) of fentanyl was seized as well as 150 pounds of methamphetamine. Several guns were also found during the searches. The fentanyl alone is nearly a million dollars worth of drugs.
“In fact, this is the largest seizure (of fentanyl) that we’ve had in the Baton Rouge Police Department history. To give you an idea, one pound of fentanyl could cause lethal overdoses for 250,000 people. And this is close to five pounds we were able to seize last night. We also got 150 pounds of methamphetamine, which is also the largest seizure in BRPD history.”
The street value for the all the drugs seized is close to $500,000, according to the Baton Rouge Police Chief.

Cendy Sammy Keophimanh was arrested and is facing numerous drug possession and possession with intent to distribute charges.
