BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge Police are continuing to investigate a shooting at the Baton Rouge Amazon Fulfillment Center on April 28 that left one person dead. Former Amazon employee, 21-year-old Daylon Anthony was shot and killed in an incident that was caught on camera.
The suspect, identified as Carlgene Nash, 18, turned himself into BRPD on Wednesday.
However, UWK has learned that police are also looking for a woman in connection to the deadly shooting. Sources tell UWK a woman is accused of supplying Nash the gun used to allegedly kill Anthony. Her name and further details have not been released at this time, but anyone with information on this aspect of the investigation is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.
A video of the shooting captured by on-scene witnesses shows Anthony, dressed in black, approaching a man wearing an Amazon vest outside the fulfillment center. The two begin to exchange words and follow each other outside the complex.
Anthony then appears to reach for something in the Amazon employee’s (Nash) hand before entering the building, according to the video. The man (Nash) in the vest follows Anthony inside and appears to fire multiple shots.
The person recording the video and other bystanders begin running away once gunshots are heard.
According to BRPD, Nash fled the site after the shooting, but he turned himself into BRPD Wednesday morning. He’s charged with second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
UWK reached out to Amazon to get more information about the security on its premises, but the company said it could not respond to questions about the active investigation. An Amazon spokesperson said the company is cooperating with BRPD in its investigation.
The incident is currently under investigation by BRPD.
According to East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office Public Information Director Casey Hicks, Amazon employs one EBRSO deputy to “be on facility grounds as a visible deterrent during certain times.” The deputy is asked to have their unit in front of the building during break times.
During these breaks, it is routine to have roughly 200-300 employees congregating outside the building.
In addition to an EBRSO deputy, Amazon also employs a private security company that works under Amazon’s direction, to screen individuals entering and exiting the facility, Hicks added. That can be anywhere between two to three guards.
UWK asked both BRPD and EBRSO how many calls the agencies have responded to for the site between January 2024 and April 30, 2025.
While an EBRSO deputy works duty at the Amazon facility, Hicks said that EBRSO is not dispatched to the location. BRPD handles all calls, and will contact EBRSO for additional assistance.
“The detail supervisor is not aware of anything since a fight around Christmas time, no known issues major issues since then,” Hicks said.
BRPD told UWK that in the past six months, it has only responded to three calls at the Amazon facility, including the April 28th shooting.
However, a BRPD spokesperson said that the sheriff’s department “has responded to majority of the calls at that location.”
Austin Stowe, a spokesperson with Amazon, provided the following statement: “We’re saddened by this senseless act of violence and are focused on supporting our employees during this time. We’re working with Baton Rouge Police in their active investigation.”
