BRPD officer hospitalized after early morning pursuit ends in crash

BATON ROUGE — Two people were taken to a hospital overnight, including a Baton Rouge Police officer, following a pursuit that ended in a crash.

It happened around 1 a.m. Monday, March 30. The officer was responding to a complaint about a man looking through vehicles. When the officer arrived, UWK has learned he attempted to question the suspect, who then fled.

The suspect led the officer on a pursuit and ran a red light. The officer also went through the red light while trying to keep up. That’s when the officer was involved in a crash at Evangeline Street and North Foster Drive. The officer’s airbag deployed, and he was taken to a hospital.

UWK is told the officer is expected to be okay but was shaken up in the crash.

It’s unclear at this time if the suspect the officer was originally pursuing was caught or not.
