Brpd releases body camera footage of arrest involving officers at Liberty Lagoon

BATON ROUGE —- The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating the arrest of a woman by BRPD officers at the kick-off to Summer of Hope at Liberty Lagoon on May 26, 2024.

Multiple fights broke out and someone had a gun pulled on them at the mayor’s third annual Summer of Hope Sunday night. Hundreds of people attended the pool party and multiple police officers responded to the scene.

Since then, BRPD launched an internal affairs investigation into their own officers to determine if there was any wrongdoing on their part.

Per that investigation, BRPD had released the body camera footage from the officers involved in the incident involving a woman’s arrest.

“In the video, a female officer attempts to detain an individual following a brief scuffle, but is unable to do so due to large crowd interference. Another officer steps into the crowd, attempting to detain the same individual and is met with physical force before being able to secure the individual in handcuffs,” BRPD released in a news release.

Anyone with additional videos from that night is asked to reach out to BRPD.

  1. Personally I feel like the first “officer” started the whole thing. 🙄 Do they not teach de-escalation tactics at BRPD?
