There were six shootings on Feb. 19, 2022 in Baton Rouge. One of those was a homicide on S. Choctaw Dr. early in the morning.

It’s started as a busy early morning for Baton Rouge Police officers and it’s continued through the day with police having responded to at least 6 known shootings in the city.

The first was a homicide on S. Choctaw Dr. with Leslie Blackburn, 55, shot in the parking lot of the VFW Hall around 3am. He was transported to a hospital and died a few hours later.

Then around 1:30pm in the 3300 block of Mohican St., a 29-yr-old showed up at a hospital with two gunshot wounds. The initial call to respond to Mohican St. came from shot spotter activation with five rounds fired. However, officers did not find a scene. A short while later, they received a call for a victim at a hospital.

Two hours later, there was a shooting in the 700 block of Progress St. around 3:30pm. The 26-yr-old victim did not want to cooperate with police to investigate. His injuries were deemed non-life threatening.

Officers went back out to the 700 block of Progress St. around 5:30pm for a gunshot that went through a window and wall of a home but no person(s) was injured.

At the same time, officers also responded to a separate shooting on East Polk St. for a 55-yr-old homeless man who said he was shot at the AM Food Mart on Highland Rd. He said he didn’t know who shot him in the leg and he did not see anyone shoot him either.

Then just before 10pm, someone called police saying a bullet went through her window at a home in the 9000 block of Kimberly Way.
