BRPD searching for man after 37-year-old woman’s decomposing body found

BATON ROUGE — An investigation is underway following the discovery of a decomposing body that was found in a home Sunday, May 12, 2024, UWK has learned.

The victim, identified as Bridget Boutwell, 37, had to be identified through her fingerprints due to the advanced state of decomposition. Following an autopsy, officials have been unable to determine the cause of her death, but further testing and analysis is pending.

Baton Rouge Police responded to a home on N. Lark St. in Baton Rouge just after 12 a.m. on May 12. That’s across I-110 from the Baton Rouge Metro Airport. The landlord called police to report that someone may have been dead inside the home.

The victim’s sister Danielle Boutwell tells UWK that Bridget spoke with her mother on April 29 to schedule a dentist appointment on April 30 but Bridget never showed up for the appointment.

Danielle says Bridget’s boyfriend, Joseph Solar, was allegedly the last person to see her sister alive. She added that Bridget’s daughter contacted Solar after she tried to reach Bridget on social media but was unsuccessful. Danielle has custody of her niece.

“She went to message Bridget on Mother’s Day, but she saw that she hadn’t been active in two weeks, which isn’t normal,” Danielle explained. “She unblocked my sister’s boyfriend Joseph. She asked him where her mother was and he told her on FaceTime that my sister shot herself. We asked him, ‘When?’ He said he did not know. We asked him, ‘Where?’ and he said he did not know.”

Danielle says Solar has messaged her several times since Tuesday, but Baton Rouge Police officers have not found him to pick him up for questioning. She added that Solar is deaf and communicates through sign language.

“We have no cause of death because of the decomposition,” she said. “He (Solar) admitted to being with her and to seeing her shoot herself in front of him, but we have no verification of that. There was no evidence of that.”

Boutwell was found on the floor of the living room in an advanced stage of decomposition, UWK has learned. Currently, there is no information regarding a suspect, but authorities do want to question Solar. UWK has learned that the victim resided at a different address.

Anyone with information on Solar’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP. Anyone with information on the decomposing body in Baton Rouge is also asked to call BRPD or Crime Stoppers.
