BRPD searching for man after woman found shot dead in home

BATON ROUGE —- Baton Rouge Police officers are asking for the public’s help in finding a man they believe is connected to the city’s latest homicide.

Josue Guevara Mejia, 35, is wanted for a homicide that happened Saturday morning on N. Cristy Dr. in Baton Rouge.

BRPD says 50-year-old Shelia Mitchell was found dead inside the home in the 1300 block of N. Cristy Dr. around 8:45 a.m. on June 29. That’s off of S. Choctaw Dr.

Officials say Mitchell had been shot and died inside the home.

Since the shooting, officers now want to question Mejia after he was allegedly seen fleeing the area. He was last seen leaving in a white Ford van bearing LA temp tag # 13664651.

Mejia is wanted on charges of second degree murder and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.

Anyone with information on Mejia’s whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP. You will remain completely anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.
