BRPD’s training academy break-in & thefts under investigation

BATON ROUGE — A break-in at the Baton Rouge Police training academy is now under investigation. Along with the break-in, sources say police equipment was reportedly stolen.

Credible sources tell Unfiltered with Kiran the BRPD break-in happened sometime between Monday and Thursday. But it wasn’t until Thursday, May 18th, that officials learned of the theft.

The academy is next door to the main building for Baton Rouge Police headquarters on Airline Hwy., or the former Woman’s Hospital. Men and women who are in training to become police officers have lockers at the academy. Sources tell UWK locks on the cadets’ lockers were found to have been cut.

Sources with information on the break-in said tasers, police radios and a few bulletproof police vests were missing. As of now, it appears all the items may have been stolen.

Sources tell UWK this is not the first time someone has attempted to break-in to the BRPD academy. In fact, there was a break-in just a few weeks ago. In that particular case, officials did not find anything that appeared to be missing, but did find broken glass leading officials to believe a homeless person may have spent the night in the facility.

Prior to that, there was another incident bringing the total up to three now in a matter of recent months. The very first one included someone getting into the parking garage at headquarters, which is supposed to be a secured garage.

*BRPD does not work with UWK and does not respond to any emails or questions regarding cases. It’s why BRPD does not have a response in this report.*
