Candlelight vigil planned to honor Walker senior killed in New Year’s Day crash

WALKER — A lantern release and candlelight vigil is planned for Saturday, Jan. 13 in honor of the Walker High senior who was killed in a New Year’s Eve crash.

It was just before 1 a.m. on Jan. 1 when Blakeleigh Weems, 17, was at a light coming off the exit ramp at I-12 westbound in Denham Springs at Range Ave.

At the same time, a driver going north on Range Avenue hit Weems’ car on the driver’s side. The teen was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Walker High football stadium.
