BATON ROUGE — As Mardi Gras festivities ramp up across Louisiana, flu activity is climbing again, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC’s weekly flu map shows Louisiana recorded some of the highest flu activity levels in the country for the week ending Feb. 7, ranking second only to Oregon.
Nationwide, flu numbers are trending up, and influenza A is still the most reported strain.
A closer look at state data shows Louisiana reported 3,771 flu cases for the week ending in Feb. 7, up from 3,224 cases the week prior.
In the Capital Region, 267 flu cases were reported for the same week. That marks an increase from the season low of 192 cases recorded during the week ending Jan. 17.
