BATON ROUGE, LA – This week marks National Car Seat Safety Week, a critical time to raise awareness about the proper installation and use of car seats, as startling statistics reveal that nearly 95% of car seats are installed incorrectly.
In an effort to address this issue, a car seat safety event is scheduled for this Saturday at the Baton Rouge Family & Youth Service Center. The event will feature Nationally Certified Child Seat Technicians, who will be available to assist parents and caregivers in ensuring that their child’s car seat is correctly installed. The experts will also teach attendees how to properly harness their children in car seats, addressing common errors that can lead to dangerous situations.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), correctly used car seats can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers in passenger vehicles. Despite these benefits, many car seats are either installed improperly or used in ways that reduce their effectiveness. This event seeks to equip parents with the knowledge needed to protect their children on the road.
The event, hosted by the Louisiana State Police, will take place at 1120 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA 70802, beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring their vehicles and car seats for a free inspection and demonstration.
