Celebrating world karate champions in Livingston Parish

LIVINGSTON — Livingston Karate emerges as a powerhouse in martial arts at the United States Karate Alliance (USKA) world championships.

The competition witnessed the Livingston team clinch numerous world championship titles, marking them as the No.1 dojo in the nation for two consecutive years.

A proud parent, Tiffany Meades expressed her joy and admiration for the Livingston team’s accomplishments.

“It’s amazing,” she said. “My son was looking for his niche. We’re from French Settlement, so our school is very small, and you only have a few options other than basketball, baseball, and track. He was looking for something different.”

Team Livingston soared to new heights by securing the top spot as the #1 team in the entire United States within the USKA.

The remarkable achievements of their teammates did not go unnoticed, as Chris, Chance, and AdiLee proudly earned the coveted “All-American” titles this year, claiming 1st place in two categories each.

Waylon achieved the prestigious “Young Patriot Award,” a testament to his dedication and skill. Sensei Jake’s remarkable skills and contributions earned him a place in the esteemed Chittam Jordan Roll of Honor. Adding the cherry on top, Sensei Ray Effler was inducted into the USKA Hall of Fame, recognizing his outstanding contributions to martial arts.

Sensei Ray Effler, who has been teaching karate for 30 years and in Livingston for about 12 years, highlighted the incredible dedication of the Livingston team.

“We’re very serious about the competition,” he said. “The United States Karate Alliance is a very competitive circuit. It’s difficult if you don’t put in the work. It won’t be for that person. These kids come to train here. For the kids that come in and stick with it, that says a huge amount about their character and potential future.”

This remarkable success not only showcases the talent within Livingston Parish but also underscores the positive impact of martial arts on the lives of young athletes, instilling values that will resonate with them for a lifetime.

In Livingston Parish, the future of martial arts shines bright thanks to the dedication and hard work of Livingston Karate and its talented team of champions.
