Central: Driver of flipped big rig rescued after three hours | Credits “An Amazing God”

CENTRAL — Numerous officials worked nonstop for three hours to get a trapped driver out of a flipped big rig.

“How this guy even survived is a grace of God,” said Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran. “There isn’t even much left to this truck. This young gentleman is still alive! He came out of the truck with his arms up saying we serve an ‘An Amazing God,’.”

Chief Corcoran says their investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The wreck happened around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19 in Central on Hooper Rd. between Devall Rd. & Greenwell Springs.

The driver of the big rig was trapped in the truck and Central & St. George firefighters spent three hours extricating him out. Officials added he was responding and talking to them the entire time, including saying “Thank you” repeatedly to the officials.

“He was pinned beneath the seats and floorboard, but upside down. The top was crushed to the floorboard. Officials spent three hours nonstop crawling into every hole to get him out. He couldn’t reach his phone either to call for help,” said Chief Corcoran.

The truck was carrying plastic pellets. Officials said they uprighted the truck around 3am Saturday.

As of now, Chief Corcoran says the driver told officers someone forced him off the roadway triggered the crash. That investigation is ongoing.
