Around 12pm, Central Middle School was placed on lockdown for a few minutes out of an abundance of caution.
Officials said someone called in that there was a man near the school wearing what the caller assumed was a “bullet-proof vest” and carrying a gun.
Law enforcement was nearby and were able to respond quickly.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies and Central Police officers approached the man and were able to determine he was not wearing a bullet-proof vest.
In fact, he had on a weighted workout vest and was not carrying a gun.
The lockdown at the school was lifted as soon as officials were able to give the all clear.
