It was around 7:30pm on March 11th when police say Ryan Russell, 38, turned onto Joor Rd. and some tools fell out of the back of his truck. Chief Corcoran said Russell went to the center lane of Joor Rd., turned on his emergency flashers and went to retrieve his tools. That’s when he was struck by a red pickup truck and died on the scene. Chief Corcoran said the red truck fled the scene.

On March 13th just before nightfall, Chief Corcoran said officers were actively searching for the truck with the help of surveillance cameras from local businesses.

“We were able to figure out the driver traveled down Joor Rd. to east on Hooper past the police department and then north on Sullivan Rd. While searching different areas for the vehicle, we got a call from an anonymous Central resident about a red pick-up truck parked in the back of a mobile home on Sullivan Rd. that could be seen from the roadway,” said Chief Corcoran.

After arriving at the residence on Sullivan Rd., officers confirmed it was the red truck with heavy front end damage. Officers did check inside the residence but did not find the driver.

It was after midnight that the truck was seized and transported to the Louisiana State Police crime lab where officials will attempt to confirm Russell’s DNA on the truck.

The case remains under investigation as officers continue searching for the driver of the truck.

Russell’s autopsy was completed today. The preliminary finding are that Russell died from blunt force trauma.

Anyone with any information on the truck’s driver is asked to call Central PD at 367-1254.
