CENTRAL —- A Central Police officer was conducting a stop when he and the two people he had stopped, were hit by a vehicle.
It happened around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 20th on Central Thruway north of Frenchtown in the City of Central.
The officer, Tim Gilbert, was struck by a pickup truck headed north on Central Thruway, according to Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran. The driver of the truck has been identified as Dylan Pizzolato.
“The pickup’s mirror also struck the two subjects Officer Gilbert had stopped,” said Chief Corcoran.
After hitting Gilbert and the two people he had stopped, Pizzolato allegedly fled north on the Thruway. That’s when officials say another Central officer, who was assisting on the original scene, started chasing Pizzolato.
Pizzolato was eventually stopped on Central Thruway near Greenwell Springs and Chief Corcoran says the driver did show signs of intoxication.
Central Police requested Louisiana State Police to take over the investigation and handle the suspected DWI.
LSP has not released any details from their investigation at this time.
Officer Gilbert and the two other victims were checked by EMS and appeared to be okay.
