BATON ROUGE — South Baton Rouge Charter Academy resumed full days at school on Thursday after the air conditioning system was repaired.
BATON ROUGE — Students at South Baton Rouge Charter Academy will be dismissed early Tuesday and Wednesday and sent home to complete lessons there because of a problem with the school’s air conditioning system.
Colleen Reynolds, a spokesperson for the charter school, said the air conditioner developed a mechanical problem last Friday. System repairs will begin once a specific part arrives.
Students were on campus Monday for a full school day, and parents were notified Monday afternoon that school would be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow and Wednesday. The early dismissal is for students to avoid being in classrooms in the afternoon heat. Teachers will send instructional packets home with work for students to do on both days, a memo sent to parents said.
The Parkway Drive school, near the intersection of Burbank Drive and Bluebonnet Boulevard, serves students from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade.
Temperatures in Baton Rouge are routinely over 90 degrees this time of year. State Climatologist Jay Grymes reported a heat index in the triple digits Monday—before afternoon storms. Similar temperatures are forecast for the next few days.
