Mother of 4-year-old arrested after child shoots himself in home

BATON ROUGE — The mother of a 4-yr-old boy has been arrested after the child shot himself, Baton Rouge Police say.

Arieana Scott, 22, was arrested after police say her son got access to an illegally modified handgun and had a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A 4-year-old boy is reportedly in critical condition after accidentally shooting himself with a gun inside his home on Wednesday morning.

Police responded to the incident at the residence located on 69th Ave., near the intersection of Scenic Hwy. and Hwy. 190 in north Baton Rouge, around 9:30 a.m. on March 20th.

Sources tell UWK that the boy shot himself in the head. His mother was at home sleeping when she heard the gunshot and discovered her son injured. He was swiftly transported to the hospital.

Scott has been booked into the EBR Parish Prison and charged with Improper Supervision of a Minor by a Parent, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Schedule 1 Drugs, Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous and Possession of a Machine Gun.
