Child killed in West Baton Rouge crash

PORT ALLEN – State police is investigating a crash that killed a 9-year-old child in Port Allen Saturday evening.

Officials say a Jeep Cherokee was headed south on LA 415 while a Chevy Blazer was headed north. As the Jeep tried to make a left turn at the intersection, the Blazer hit the front passenger side of the Jeep.

Authorities say all occupants in the Jeep were properly restrained and uninjured. The driver and rear passenger of the Chevy were unrestrained and suffered moderate injuries.

The child, Braelynn Washington, was the front passenger in the Chevy and was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. She later died from her injuries.

Officials say it is unknown if either driver was impaired during the crash.

The crash remains under investigation, and state troopers will forward their findings to the West Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s office for evaluation.
