Christmas crusade rolls through Ascension once again

It wouldn’t be Christmas time without another Christmas Crusade taking place in Ascension Parish with the Sheriff’s Office rolling through the parish providing toys and cheer for all the kids in need.

This year’s iteration of the crusade was a little different as Iglesia Centro de Vida Church in Gonzales partnered with the sheriff’s office to distribute 200 gifts around the parish.

“We helped pack everything and took a few buses,” said Alexis Luque, an assistant pastor at Iglesia Centro de Vida. “We went all over the city to places with need. It was great. We saw a lot of children of different ethnicities. They were so happy.”

Luque said the church has already begun thinking about next year’s event. He said they are expected to use the full fleet of 13 buses the church has next year compared to nearly half they used this year.

“I’d highly recommend more people do participate in something like this,” Luque said. “Our experience was a great one. I’ll definitely motivate more people to do it. You see the smiles on the kids’ faces. As a minister for the gospel, it inspired me to recognize that we need to do this more often.”
