BATON ROUGE — Hunters for the Hungry Louisiana asked, and Louisianians listened. At the end of August, the organization held its annual Clean Out Your Freezer Day.
People from across the state were encouraged to clear out and donate frozen food to families in need ahead of the upcoming hunting season. The group was hoping to collect more than 18,500 pounds of food, which is how much they gathered in 2025.
They beat the number by nearly 1,000 pounds, collecting 19,465, according to a Facebook post. The post reads in part, “Your donations made a tremendous difference and helped us provide more food to families and communities in need.”

BATON ROUGE — To help you make room for the upcoming hunting season, Hunters for the Hungry Louisiana is hosting its annual Clean Out Your Freezer Day this weekend.
On Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026, Louisianians are encouraged to donate frozen food to families in need. That includes properly packaged, labeled, and dated game, fish, or other protein. You can also donate other frozen food.
There are drop-off locations across the state, including locally.

- Bowie Outfitters, 8630 Perkins Rd
- CCA Louisiana, 12241 Industriplex
- Baton Rouge Fire Department, 3150 Brightside Dr
- Baton Rouge Fire Department, 5758 Claycut
- Central Fire Department, 11646 Sullivan Rd
- St. George Fire Department, 7027 Antioch Rd
- St. George Fire Department, 9214 Jefferson Highway
- St. George Fire Department, 16415 George O’Neal Lane
- Zachary Fire Department, 4525 Main Street
- Cabela’s, 2200 W Cabela’s Pkwy, Gonzalez
- Bass Pro Shops, 175 Bass Pro Blvd, Denham Springs
- Slidell, 1 pm – 4 pm
- Rouse’s Market
- Clinton, 1 pm – 4 pm
- Red Boot Deli
All of the items collected in the Baton Rouge area and Clinton will be donated to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and distributed to local agencies, and everything donated in Slidell will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank and distributed to New Orleans Mission.

Last year, Louisianians donated nearly 18,500 pounds of frozen food, and Hunters for the Hungry hopes to top that number this year.
