CLINTON —- East Feliciana Sheriff’s deputies have arrested three people, including a 16-year-old, and additional arrests are pending after a shooting that unfolded during the Mardi Gras parade in East Feliciana Parish on Saturday afternoon.

The three arrested include Jascent Scott, 26, of Baker, Noah Basquine, 19, of Ethel, and a 16-year-old juvenile. EFSO deputies say they do not believe Scott was involved in the shootings.
It was around 12:20 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31 in Clinton when the shooting happened. “The parade had started rolling. I don’t think it even made it to Main Street yet when the shots rang out,” East Feliciana Parish Sheriff Jeff Travis told UWK.

Sheriff Travis says five people were injured in the shooting, including a child. “There was one six-year-old child hit in the leg, and a couple other people hit in the leg,” Sheriff Travis said. “As far as I know at this moment, we don’t have any fatalities.” As of Sunday afternoon, investigators said they were unaware of any change in the status of the victims.
UWK is told the child was shot in the leg multiple times and was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge. They are listed in critical condition. An adult was also airlifted to a Baton Rouge hospital where they are in critical condition. Two more adults were transported to a Baton Rouge hospital where they are listed in critical but stable condition. UWK has learned several other patients were taken by private vehicles to a hospital in Zachary.
At this time, it’s unclear what led up to the shooting.
Noah Basquine and the 16-year-old are charged with attempted second-degree murder, principal to obstruction of justice and reckless discharge of a firearm at a parade or demonstration. Scott is charged with illegal carrying of a weapon and two counts of resisting an officer. Additional arrests are expected, per EFSO.
“We had a lot of help, because we were trying to be prepared in the event that something like this were to happen, but we had no advance intelligence that anything like this was going to happen,” the sheriff said.
The East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting and is requesting the public’s help. Anyone with photos or video of the shooting or any taken in close proximity of the shooting is asked to share the material with the agency.
